Welcome to Thursby Primary School
We are delighted to welcome you and your child to the Thursby Primary School family.
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we are committed to making the transition into school as positive, enjoyable and successful as possible for every child.
This page has been designed to provide parents and carers with all the information needed before your child joins us. Here, you will find details about our induction programme, the school day, uniform, lunches, school policies and much more. We hope it gives you a helpful insight into life at Thursby and answers many of the questions you may have as your child prepares to start school.
We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to helping children thrive. Our transition process is carefully planned to ensure that children feel happy, confident and ready for their new adventure, while parents and carers feel informed and supported every step of the way.
We look forward to getting to know your family and working together as your child begins their learning journey with us. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help.
Induction Process
As part of our induction process we will arrange the following:
- A home visit, providing an opportunity to get to know your child in a familiar environment and answer any questions you may have.
- An induction afternoon at school, allowing your child to become familiar with their new setting, meet staff and begin building confidence ahead of their start date.
These will take place the half-term prior to your child starting with us at Thursby Primary School.
During this induction period, we will also agree your child's individual start date and starting arrangements, including any phased transition if appropriate.

Our Early Years Curriculum
At Thursby Primary School we aspire for our children to be 'life-long learners' through creating a safe, secure and engaging environment. We offer a curriculum which is meaningful and inspiring with intentions to support the development of the whole child.
In our Early Years children engage in a variety of adult-led and play-based learning activities which are planned to support their next steps in learning and development. Children thrive in our indoor and outdoor environment, having opportunities to explore their natural curiosity as well as being active learners.
You can find our more about our curriculum and see photos and examples of our provision by following the link below.
Attendance and Punctuality
Good attendance is one of the most important factors in helping your child to enjoy school, build friendships and make strong progress in their learning. We encourage all children to attend school every day and arrive on time so that they can take part in the full range of learning opportunities and settle quickly into school routines.
Further information about attendance, including how to report absence, can be found by following the link below.
Communicating with Parents
At Thursby Primary School, we highly value strong communication between home and school and believe that working in partnership is key to helping every child thrive. We are committed to keeping parents and carers informed about their child's learning, school events and important updates.
We use ClassDojo as our main platform for sharing class news, celebrating achievements and communicating with families. Parents can also find key information, news and updates on our school website. Joining information for Class Dojo will be shared when your children starts with us.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can also contact your child's teacher via our class email addresses or get in touch with the school office, who will be happy to help or direct your enquiry to the appropriate member of staff.
We encourage parents and carers to contact us whenever they need support, information or advice. By working together, we can ensure the very best outcomes for every child.

Preparing Your Child for School
Starting school is an exciting milestone. Every child develops at their own pace, and we do not expect children to be able to do everything independently before they start. However, helping your child develop some key skills can make the transition to school smoother and build their confidence. We have created a useful document which shares examples of how to prepare your child for school.
