Science at Thursby Primary School

At Thursby Primary School, our science curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding and help children make sense of the world around them. We want every child to enjoy science, feel confident asking questions and develop the skills needed to think and work scientifically.

Children take part in practical investigations, outdoor learning and hands-on exploration so they can observe, test, compare and explain what they discover. Across all year groups, pupils learn key scientific knowledge in biology, chemistry and physics, and are taught how to use accurate vocabulary to describe scientific ideas clearly.

We follow the National Curriculum and ensure that pupils build their understanding step by step, revisiting important concepts so they can remember them over time. Through “working scientifically”, children learn how to plan and carry out enquiries, record and interpret results, and draw simple conclusions based on evidence.

We want our pupils to leave primary school with a strong scientific foundation, a sense of wonder about the natural world and the confidence to apply their learning to real-life situations as they move on to secondary school and beyond.
