This half term children will be encouraged to be independent learners. We spend time getting to know our new setting and one another. Over the first two weeks we will listen to children read, observe them write and assess their mathematical understanding. All this will be done with patience and in an unobtrusive manner.
Over the following weeks, we will learn to 'own' our classroom and respect the space we learn in. We will create class rules and build agreements of how we should behave in school. We will share out monitor roles so that the classroom is cared for by everyone, and responsibility is distributed. It is important, especially for our year 1 children who are beginning a new curriculum, that the stamina for learning is built gradually. You may notice that your child is especially tired during the first few weeks; this is normal. Please talk to us if you are concerned about your child settling into school.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Mrs Milburn, Mr McDougall, Mr Townsend and Mrs Carter.
School start and finish times
The school start and finish times have changed. School doors will open at 8.45 and school will finish at 3.10. This is an earlier start and finish to previous years. Year 1 and 2 will enter and leave school via the Hall doors.
PE will be taught on Tuesday and Friday. We will continue with outdoor PE and will be doing cross-country on a Friday. Make sure your child has PE clothing and trainers that you don't mind getting muddy as we run on the school field. Full PE kit is needed on these days, including trainers that your child can fasten themselves.
Jewellery can be a hazard at school. Please do not send your child to school wearing it. If your child has pierced ears, please be aware they must not be worn on PE days. Teachers are not allowed to remove ear piercings. If piercings cannot be removed because they are new, the area must be taped at home. Spare tape should be brought into school.
Two water bottles are needed in school every day. Please fill them at home. Juice or fizzy drinks are not permitted.
Wellies and spare clothes
Please bring wellies as well as a warm coat for playtime. A spare change of clothing, including underwear is useful. Place them in a named bag which can be hung on your child's peg in the cloakroom.
